The year is 1948. The city of Port Catalino was experiencing an unprecedented amount of fog. Hazy clouds billowing through the streats. A beacon in the mist - "The Sweet Escape Hotel", A luxury stay for colourful clientele; but it doesn't seem so sweet when Escape isn't an option.
What is Once Upon A Dreadful Night?
Once Upon A Dreadful Night (OUDN) is an actual play / improvised theater production inspired by the tabletop RPG Dread. Each performance is a one-of-a-kind story built collaboratively between our players and the audience’s imagination — no two nights are ever the same.
Our ensemble is made up of talented local artists, each with a background in improv, storytelling, or stage performance. Together, they bring spontaneous characters, chilling narratives, and emotional depth to life — all guided by the pulls off of the block tower.
OUDN aims to merge the unpredictability of tabletop gaming with the craft of live theatre. The result is an immersive experience that’s as suspenseful as it is heartfelt, where every pull of the tower leads to and unforgettable moments - for better or worse.
The Cast
Helen
she/they | The Rookie Manager
Helen is one of the show runners of OUDN Productions - and joining Dread Noir as the Rookie Manager. How did they get their role as a manager before other seasoned staffs? Pay no mind to that. Helen has performed in various theatre productions, including the lead role as Janet van de Graaf in "The Drowsy Chaperone". They have also performed in various improv shows, including "Le Grand Yes" (2026) in Montreal, and "Jack and Jill" in Victoria Fringe Festival (2026). Will Helen survive a shift at the Sweet Escape Hotel?
Jordan
he/him | The Mob Boss
Jordan is a seasoned actor, both in film and live theatre. He is also an avid TTRPG enthusiast! This time around, he joins Once Upon A Dreadful Night as a player, performing as a "Mob Boss" by the name of Clint. He is shrouded in mystery... And probably crime? Will Clint survive the horror that's about to ensue in Dread Noir? We'll find out this Halloween season!
Ryan
he/they | Game Guide / Narrator
Ryan joins Dread Noir as the narrator, aka the "Game Guide". Their job is to build the world, but their hobby is making sure nobody gets out alive. Ryan has extensive professional experience being the Game Master for tabletop roleplaying games (such as Dungeons and Dragons). Ryan routinely creates colourful worlds with rich lore - and the world of Dread Noir is not an exception. They are also a graduate of CCPA, with passion for the performing arts. Come watch Ryan turn every choice into a consequence - and make every consequence a little more dreadful.
D'arcy
he/they | The Bellhop
D'Arcy is no stranger to the local theatre scene. He is one half of the Burger and Briggs duo, founder of The Bakery Improv, and a regular cast member of OUDN Productions. This time, they’ll be portraying the Bellhop - friendly, charming, and has enough dirt on everybody to blackmail the entire city. Watch them use their people skills to survive the unknown threats lurking around every corner of the Sweet Escape Hotel. Their performance in "I Say! An Improvised P. G. Wodehouse" (2026) was met with a standing ovation. More recently, they have performed at Victoria Fringe Fest as part of their Spotlight Shorts. They will also be participating at "Le Grand Yes" Improv festival in Montreal later this year. Come meet the Bellhop. Just don't tell them anything you wouldn't want the whole city to know.
Kento
he/him | Producer / Tech
Kento is likes being behind the scenes, doing the background things that support artists to do their best work. While he rarely performs on stage, he acts as a primary producer of OUDN, and is responsible for the website, marketing, and overall production management. He contributes to the world-building and narrative development of OUDN's performances. He is intensely passionate about building community spaces to explore and express art.
